Throughout each piece I am building a bridge to connect the gap between the past and current generations. The subject matter is based on gentlemen that are later on in their life. They are set in a scene more frequented by those in their youth. Each layer develops the next as they overlap to tell the story of this juxtaposition of past youth and a wizened aged. With each delicate stroke of the paintbrush, a new line in the story begins and further develops the vision I see of bringing the past with the present, the old with the new, and to bridge the middle. My approach of paint application and colors vary with each story I create. Although similar settings may be seen, the intent and the feeling is always something new.
My pencil turned into a spray can, which then led to a paintbrush. The motivation of creating my work stems from the experiences I encountered throughout my youth spraying graffiti and making large murals. Instead of hiding under bridges and dark alleys, I now want to bring the essence of that feeling, and that place, with my interests now. In my current body of work, my past and my present are connected and are inherently entwined. I enjoy bringing the gritty disdain of the street with the vibrant knowledge that I have gained with age.
